Before 5G is even available nationwide in Germany, prices for suitable end devices are falling. Realme should now plan a 5G smartphone which does not even cost 200 euros.
With the Realme V5, the young Chinese company Realme has the cheapest 5G smartphone in its portfolio to date. In China, the device is available for 1,499 yuan, the equivalent of just under 183 euros. It remains to be seen whether the phone will also be available in Germany. In this country, the market for 5G cell phones is much smaller than in the company’s home country. Especially since a very expensive 5G data tariff is necessary for addition to the smartphone, the 5G topic in Germany will initially remain in the upper class. With greater availability, prices will certainly fall here too, but that could drag on a little longer.
Density 720 ensures super-cheap 5G
Now a well-known Chinese leaker has announced on Weibo that Realme is working on an even cheaper 5G cell phone. Inside, the Density 720 will be used again, but the rest of the hardware has been slimmed down a bit. The display, for example, should be equipped with a 720p LCD. The company will probably also save a little on the camera. According to an entry with the Chinese radio authority TENAA, the smartphone will have a 6.5-inch display and a decent 4,980 mAh battery. Previous rumors assume a price of around 1,199 yuan, which is equivalent to around 147 euros.
As a competition, Huawei could soon unveil a super cheap smartphone. The Enjoy 20 5G will soon be unveiled for the Chinese market, with the price also being the deciding factor here. Huawei also works here with a chipset from MediaTek. These could be found in even more of the company’s devices in the future, as the production of the company’s own Kirin SoC had to be discontinued.
